“Dreams” by Alexis Rhone Fancher

Self Portrait

Self Portrait

I left & he kept everything.
my books,
my underwear, my jewelry,
my dreams.
He boxed ‘em up w/ old LP’s
& my unfinished novel;
put everything in storage,
paid good money 4 years,
rather than give it back.

That’s how much he hated me.

Sorry, Charlie. I’ve done great
w/o my sordid past,
I only miss your cock
& my grandma rose’s cookbook,
secret ingredient addenda scrawled
in the margins,
that family recipe for potato kugel,
lost forever.

Sometimes I dream about it.

Made me laugh and think how pettiness often backfires
