“Passage” by Ariana Trinneer

In the sightless past, a seed
pushed at the darkness around
and carved out a raisin-sized cave
glittering with patterns immense
genomes,
butterfly wings
fabrics luminous, shimmering
a liquid web, honey thick;
and wrapped itself in promise,
the most beautiful thing
the kind glimpsed only
between blinks andheldbreath
and in dreams.
It needed this
belief
more almost more
than light and the sweet bark scent
of an expectant future
beginning/be
coming to be.

Beautiful words, and I felt the suspense of this embryonic life preparing to burst on the scene – Ariana, it’s captivating.
