“it only takes a moment” by Vicki Batkin

there he was,
in my rear mirror
took my breath away.

he didn’t notice me,
he was following her.

weaving in and out of cars,
like a handsome braid
graceful, yet manly.
his glistening black hair
matching his Harley

sitting tall and statuesque-like,
he turned.
i could see my reflection
in his glasses,
where did i go?

he caught up.

he nodded.
she smiled.
i shrunk.

they can’t see
what lies ahead.
the lust,
the love,
the comfort,
the happiness,
the blows
and
blunders.
the disappointment…

it was there,
in that moment
i saw it all,
i lived it all,
i had it all.

and now,
i’m invisible.

how could a lifetime
end up in a moment?

“The Moments That Are No More Still Live” by Stephen Kalinich

eternally
the moments
that are no more
still live
echo throughout the World
sing the many songs of joy
life can be glorious
and we have lived the glory
in the experiences
we have shared already
reliving our lives
through mute skies
we sing aloud every day
I am life
i am your heart
find
yourself in me…
and every heart shall open
and every ear shall hear
one has come today
who talks about one
who comes alive within
the quickening spirit
the music Creator
of all melodies
the eternal composer
that
rules over and through each soul
ever born everywhere
that holds
the wind in her grasp
whose touch is all encompassing.
The moments that are no more still live.

“to beat the band” by Alexis Rhone Fancher

Alexis Rhone Fancher

you take a good picture, he says,
picking up
the framed, Fuji-color
moment,
taking it in.

it is me, so strong,
invincible.
a good actress, I am.
I’ve hidden the pain
of that raw time.
he doesn’t look hard enuf
to see it.
can you blame him?
it is all we can do
to cover our own grief.

in the photo I look
happy, strong, arms above
my head
& those dark glasses
glinting back
the harsh winter sun,
the red
pashmina
draped
around my neck

& I look good
real good
& if you didn’t
check the date –
if you didn’t know,
you’d never
know
that inside I was
grieving
to beat
the band.

“2010” by Stephen Kalinich

NOTHING CAN DISTURB ME

I AM NOURISHED

PROTECTED

CARED FOR

NOTHING CAN DISTURB ME.

NOTHING CAN TAKE

MY JOY AWAY

FROM ME.

HAPPINESS IS WITHIN ME.

I CAN FACE THE FUTURE

AND THE MOMENT

WITH CONFIDENCE.

I CAN BE PEACEFUL.

I CAN REST

IN EVER PRESENT TENDERNESS.

ALL AVENUES OF GOOD

ARE OPEN TO ME.

LOVE IS POURING OUT

AN INFINITE ABUNDANCE

OF PATIENCE

AND UNDERSTANDING.

I CAN RISE UP

EACH DAY

TO GREET THE WORLD.
