“Do You Know Here?” by Stephen Kalinich

Do you know here?
Do you know there?
Do you know
any place
or anywhere?
Do you even care
about the fate of mankind
will you just let it all unwind
without lifting a hand
is your life just a witnessing
Have you experienced that moment
when all of the universe comes together
on the head of a pin
or in your drive way.
when you get out of the car
and lightning hits you
revelation awakening
nothing will ever be the same
for now you know
what no book or religion can tell you
and you know
those who know
observe
but do not talk .
It comes with the certainty
after that mini infinitesimal second
you can control
the Universe but if you switch intent
to self
you lapse
into forgetfulness
and that is man’s present state
on this planet
except for the few.

“(My Heart Is) Black & Blue” by L. K. Thayer

Lately it’s been rough
Instead of upbeat
I’m feelin’ beat up
My heart is black & blue
Over you
My heart is black & blue
Over you

Is it true
What I hear
You’re seein’ somebody else
That’s what I fear
My heart is black & blue
My heart is black & blue

Black & blue from the lack of love
I’m hurtin’ & it’s you I’m thinkin’ of
My heart is black & blue

Over you, I can’t get over

From this love, I can’t seem to recover

My heart is black & blue (repeat)

I’m black & blue
I’m black & blue

I’m black & blue

“A Slice Of Orange, A Time For Juice” by Stephen Kalinich

Stevie Kalinich - Photo by Jill Jarrett

“Wisdom comes in small doses
nothing is forgotten
each memory is forever
each dance
a testament
that we still are life
with all its challenges and pitfalls..
Only the striving must cease
and we must become quiet
for the true self to emerge
through the chaos and perplexity.

Under the rock
there is a diamond
we have to polish it
and the diamond is us
each unique
when we find our own voice
it reveals itself to us
forward happens
we can not stop it…
dominion is our birthright..
all is only as real
as we make it
the thoughts we give power to
can shape and sculpt our lives.
Blaming is a street not to travel.
Let those
who have wronged us go
and let our resentment go too.

Songs of the self pour out of us
when our hearts sing
all is in the way
the notes are brought to life
and sound.
Now it is time for breakfast.
For a slice of Orange
A Time for juice…

“American Idol” by Vicki Batkin

My rock goddess will never die
I see her flying into dense fog
Just to make the show.

She’s footloose and fancy-free
With a hint of Tabasco
And she will take no prisoners.

She prances around with greatness
While her followers trail behind
Blinded by her scent

She is my secret pal
And my one true song.

Yes, my one true song.
Shhh…I wrote the lyrics.

“The Choice” by Delevie/Morgan

They packed him with explosives
Which they hid beneath his clothes
They filled his heart with lust
For the destruction of his foes

They said his death was nothing
But the price that must be paid
To fan the flames of hate and strife
Maximize the loss of life
Making peace impossible
By making them afraid.

He made his date with destiny
With heaven in his eyes
The bomb he wore was gonna blow him straight To paradise

Where he would spend eternity
In opulence and style

And all at once a little girl
Walked straight into his perfect world
She caught his eye, he looked at her
And she looked back and smiled.

She smiled into his face
With all the innocence of youth
And in that moment all at once
He understood the truth
He looked his hatred in the eye
And hatred looked away.
And there’s at least one terrorist
In paradise today.

When she smiled his soul awoke
His heart said, “that’s enough”
There’s no way in this world
You can betray this baby’s love
This act of hate is over
And if God will not forgive
He’ll have to pass on paradise
And let this baby live.

He winked at her and walked away
Without a single word
And in the evening news
They said an act of grace occurred
A human bomb exploded
But the damages were slight
Newsman said he evidently wired it wrong
And consequently detonated in a field

And died alone tonight

She smiled into his face
With all the innocence of youth
And in that moment all at once
He understood the truth
He looked his hatred in the eye
And hatred looked away.
And there’s at least one terrorist
In paradise today.

Love lifts you to heaven
That’s what gets you into heaven
Nothing but love lifts you to heaven
That’s what takes you to heaven .
